.BOOBS!.BABES.AND.SAVE.SECOND.BASE!.

SO.... there is this game that exists, a few people know and play it... but it is mostly shared between my oldest sister and I (and dirty hockey teams haha) basically the rules go like this...every time you see boobs or think about boobs you know...breasts...ta ta's, hooters...any ones BOOBS. you have to be completely honest...and say BOOBS! my sister and I have shared entire days full of texts that simply say. boobs. bahaha.... ahem...maturity level back up...aaaaand...now. I thought that was a good intro to THIS!

I have always wanted to do this run, for people who know me really well, I have this "thing" about cancer. I have never had a close encounter with breast cancer specifically, but I have lost a close friend to cancer.

when I was in Ecuador, I lost one of my best friends, a little boy named Luis, who was 12 years old... skin and bone cancer ate away at his body. he couldn't move without immense pain, and he didn't have any family with him to see him to the other side. I started visiting with him in the terminally ill center of hogar muigel leon (a convent in Cuenca Ecuador) in October 2005. i came to find out details of his life through sitting and playing "the matching game" with him. his mom tried to hurt him and ditch him when she found out he had cancer and could no longer work for her.

Luis ran away to his grandmother, who couldn't take care of him, when he couldn't do much anymore he came to Hogar. they cared for him and fed him...but were basically helping him die. I watched cancer eat away at his little body, a body that should be running around and playing with friends. we talked as best we could. my Spanish was not great, but he was patient with me... I asked Luis one day...(in Spanish) when is your birthday Luis? all he could muster was a " como?...I dont know"

we threw him a birthday party and bought him a Christmas hat. I gave him the little necklace you see around his neck, I also bought one for me, at the cathedral in downtown Cuenca they sell hope beads on little black strings you wear around your neck, its very catholic, but beautiful. pictures of resurrected Jesus were on either side. I kept mine on long after he died.

Cancer beat Luis on December 5th 2005. weeks before Christmas. I pray he rests in peace, and I pray they find hope for cancer victims.

Luis is only one story. there are MILLIONS of people who are affected by cancer. and they are doing everything they can to research cures for this un stoppable disease i know they work hard...BUT .THEY.NEED.MONEY. lets be serious here.

.COME.ON.GUYS. There is no personal gain to this run. I just don't want to half-ass it...I want to make a difference. Nat and Saren and I are training hard for this. we want to do the best we can and make everyone who donates proud! we can beat breast cancer together. one day, you will be affected by it, it is real.
